Visions and Nightmares
In Visions And Nightmares, the collective ThisOnly considers the beginnings of KRS-One against the aesthetic and socio-political strides of Black cultural and political empowerment within tyrannical 1980s New York City and national & international politics. As the finance, insurance, and real estate (FIRE) economy swept through New York, in parallel the dissolution of what were just the tepid beginnings of a social-democratic social contract accelerated under the presidency of Ronald Reagan. The backlash against the gains of the Civil Rights movement and the building of some minimal social safety net, begun under the Goldwater candidacy, was reaching its apotheosis in the Reagan Presidency.
